Liverpool to sign Hoffenheim midfielder

Liverpool Football Club have announced the signing of Hoffenheim midfielder Roberto Firmino subject to a medical which will take place in Merseyside at the Copa America.

The Brazilian is currently in Chile taking part in the summer tournament, but will finalise his move to the Premier League side once the competition ends next month.

Manchester United Interest

Firmino has been strongly linked with a move to England in recent months, and his agent confirmed last week that it would be happening this summer, with Manchester United seemingly favourites.

The deal to Old Trafford looked all-but arranged, but Liverpool swooped in and managed to secure a deal for the 23-year-old.

Fifth Signing for Liverpool

Firmino has agreed to a long-term deal at Anfield, becoming their fifth summer signing already, following James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez, but this one comes with a substantial transfer fee.

The Reds will be paying Hoffenheim ÂŁ29million for the midfielder, making him one of Liverpool’s most expensive transfers ever.

After agreeing to leave the Bundesliga side, Firmino ends his four-and-a-half-year association with the German club after making 151 appearances in league and cup, netting 47 goals.
