Both sides have sent scouts to watch him in action

Liverpool and West Ham are set to go head to head to try and sign Gregoire Defrel, according to reports.

The 25-year old has impressed both clubs at current club Sassuolo, with both teams having sent scouts to watch him play for the Italian side.

Now, the two Premier League sides are ready to launch moves to sign him in January.

Boost the Hammers strikeforce

The Hammers are eager to bolster their strikeforce in the winter transfer window to help them surge up the table and Defrel is one of their top targets – that is, if Slaven Bilic remains in charge come the first of January.

As for Liverpool, they too are keen to bring in another attacking option and Defrel has caught the eye in Serie A.

He won’t be cheap though by any means. Sassuolo are expected to want upwards of £20m for the forward, but it is a fee that both teams could afford to pay.

Leicester have also been linked with a move but it is currently West Ham and Liverpool that are leading the chase to sign Defrel.
