Liverpool legends claim Balotelli signing is a ‘gamble’

Liverpool striking legends, Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush, have stated that signing Mario Balotelli from AC Milan, is a massive risk for the club, but they also believe every signing comes with an element of risk attached.

The Reds signed the controversial Italian for just ÂŁ16million from the Serie A side, and despite many positives surrounding the signings, Fowler and Rush also have their concerns about the transfer.

Balotelli, who used to play for Manchester City, left the Premier League and England alltogether due to gaining a bad reputation in the press and also being in the middle of several incidents involving team-mates and managers on and off the field.

Fowler and Rush both believe that signing Balotelli is a good deal for the club, but they also know that they are taking a massive risk by signing him due to his past records.

“I’ve said before he is a gamble but any player, regardless of whether it’s Mario Balotelli or any other player, is a gamble because they are coming into a new club,” Fowler said.

“Any signing is a gamble and it’s not because it’s Mario Balotelli but any club that signs any player is a gamble because you don’t know what you’re going to get.

“His attitude was spot on against Tottenham and you’ll always get that at Liverpool. Under Brendan Rodgers’ guidance he will be superb and you can’t argue with his record. Wherever he’s played he’s been fantastic so we as supporters will greet him very well.”

“You get quality players who don’t hit it off, and it takes time, but I think it’s settling down off the pitch rather than on the pitch [that matters],” Rush added.

“I found out when I went to Italy, it was about settling down off the pitch there. So no matter who you sign, it’s a gamble.”
