Liverpool have been linked with a loan move for Iker Casillas
Liverpool are in the market for a new Goalie to challenge current first-choice Simon Mignolet, and are believed to be closing in on a deal for free agent Valdes.
The Spain international is set to join the club on a trial basis and will have to prove his fitness to Brendan Rodgers after suffering a horrific injury last season.
If all goes well, Valdes will be handed a deal until the end of the season with the option of an extension, but Liverpool are already making backup plans should the move collapse.
QPR striker Loic Remy came close to signing during the summer before failing a medical, and Rodgers is determined to not be caught off-guard again.
His second option between the sticks is Real Madrid legend Casillas, who has fallen out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu.
New signing Keylor Navas is set to become the Italian’s undisputed first-choice, and Liverpool will look to take Casillas on loan in January if Valdes fails to join.
