Manchester United are also interested in the defender

Liverpool are set to make an improved offer for Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne in the coming weeks.

The England international was the subject of a recent ÂŁ9 million bid from Liverpool which was subsequently rejected by the Saints, as they hold out for at least double figures.

However, it seems the Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to offer the south-coast side a brand new offer to try and lure Clyne to Anfield.

Liverpool need to fill the void at right-back after Glen Johnson was released and John Flanagan is out with a long-term injury.

Contract worries for Koeman

Clyne’s current deal at St. Mary’s runs out at the end of the 2015/16 season, for which the fixture list was released today.

However, the Southampton manager Ronald Koeman may look to cash in on his star rather than risk losing him on a free transfer this time next year.

According to the Daily Star, Clyne is desperate to move to Liverpool and follow his dreams of playing at Anfield, even though Liverpool’s bitter rivals Manchester United have also shown their interest.

The Express also claim that Liverpool’s improved bid will be accepted by the Saints, as they already have a replacement lined up. There are rumours circulating that Sporting Lisbon full-back Cedric Soares will soon be joining Southampton for around ÂŁ3.5 million.

Liverpool look set to complete the signing of Nathaniel Clyne as soon as possible and seem to be going into business with Southampton for the second summer in a row. Last year they raided St. Mary’s for Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.

The 24-year old Clyne scored three goals in 43 appearances in all competitions last campaign.

He is a product of the Crystal Palace academy and played regularly in the first team before a move to Southampton in 2012.
