Reds tried to sign Real Madrid star over the summer

Liverpool are set to renew their interest in Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev in the New Year.

The Reds were desperate to land the Russian during the summer transfer window, but they failed to convince him to leave the Bernabeu as he was keen on fighting for his place in Spain.

However, a few months later and a serious lack of first-team action, Cheryshev is now prepared to complete the transfer.

It was initially Brendan Rodgers who wanted to sign the Madrid winger, but with Jurgen Klopp now the manager at Anfield, it was expected that interest in Cheryshev would be dropped.

Liverpool Remain Keen

That is not the case however with reports suggesting Liverpool are still keen on signing the 24-year-old.

Cheryshev has been with Madrid since 2002, but he has failed to cement a spot in their first-team and has spent loan-spells away in recent years with La Liga rivals Sevilla and Villarreal.

According to reports, Cheryshev is open to the idea of moving to Liverpool.
