Liverpool yet to start Gerrard talks

Brenden Rodgers has insisted that the club will offer captain Steven Gerrard a new three year deal but it appears that Liverpool are taking a very relaxed approach to proceedings.

Gerrard said: “Brendan has mentioned a new deal a couple of times in the media, but no talks have happened.

“I am not trying to call the club out or anything like that. It’s not like that. I’m sure we will talk in the future but we will have to wait and see.

“I hope that I’m here for more than one year, of course I do, but it is all about this season for me.”

Gerrard recently announced his retirement from international duty to focus more on his club game and Rodgers has explained that this one of the reasons the Reds will offer him a new contract.

He said: “I am very happy that Steven is now going to commit to Liverpool and I am sure that is something that we will look at.

“I know that he can continue to play on beyond this season. I have always said that.

“Now he doesn’t have international football, he will have that freshness. I think it is something that will be looked at by the club.”
