Manchester United manager, Louis Van Gaal, was very critical of captain, Robin Van Persie, after yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, claiming his celebration was ‘stupid’ and ‘needless’.
The Dutchman scored a 93rd minute equaliser to salvage a point against table-toppers Chelsea, and after firing home past Thibaut Courtois, Van Persie ran to the sidelines, took off his shirt and through it into the air in front of a delighted Old Trafford.
Due to football rules, Van Persie picked up a yellow card for removing his shirt, and after the game, Van Gaal stated what he did was stupid as it meant him picking up a needless yellow card.
‘You can see he had a stupid reaction after the goal,’ Van Gaal said.
‘You can be excited, but you don’t have to pull your shirt off because then you get a yellow card.
‘It’s not so smart.’
