Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre believes the race for the Bundesliga title is still on and wide open following his side’s dominating win over Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Dortmund’s eighth win in 11 games opened up a seven point gap from defending champions Bayern who are distantly placed in the fourth position. This is their worst possible start in the Bundesliga as Niko Kovac’s side are currently struggling to find their foothold on the ground.

Robert Lewandowski drew the first blood as he headed home from an inch perfect cross from Serge Gnabry. But Marco Reus provided an instant impact after the break as he reduced the deficit from the spot after Manuel Neuer fouled him illegally just inside the box.

Bayern then took the lead a couple of minutes later and the Polish striker was once again on target. Reus then went on to score his second of the evening and later in form forward Paco Alcacer added a third to round off an excellent match for the home side.

Favre said, “We’re on top of the table in the Bundesliga and Gladbach are second.

“Who is number three again? Bayern. It’s very close.

“There is [RB] Leipzig, Gladbach and of course Bayern Munich, [especially] when they play like they did [against Dortmund].”
