Romelu Lukaku has revealed that Jose Mourinho was left in the dark over his transfer to Everton, as he did not discuss the transfer with his ex-boss.

Wednesday evening saw Everton smash their transfer record to sign Lukaku for ÂŁ28 million following a successful loan spell at Goodison last season.

The Belgian hasn’t always seen eye to eye with Mourinho, and confirmed that he kept his decision quiet once he’d made up his mind.

He said: “I spoke with my agent and then from that moment on I left it up to him as I was on holiday.”

“I made my decision and then didn’t speak too much about it.”

When asked about whether he had sat down and discussed the deal with Mourinho, Lukaku revealed he hadn’t due to Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures.

”I think he was busy with the game (against Vitesse Arnhem on Wednesday night).”

The arrival of ÂŁ30 million man Diego Costa would’ve seen Lukaku’s first team chances limited again, which the 21 year-old revealed was a reason behind leaving.

“Chelsea is a big club and sometimes it is difficult for young players to come through. I want to have a good career and I didn’t want to spend 10 years on the bench, I wanted to make the best out of every year.

“This is a club with a lot of ambition and the right place to be. You don’t have to have regrets in football. Choices have to be made.”

Lukaku will wear the number 10 shirt for Everton, and has signed a five year contract.
