Speaking ahead of the Gunners’ Semi-Final clash with Wigan Athletic on Saturday, the Germany international said it is essential his side give it their all and leave no room for complacency.

“It is the biggest Cup in the world and a big tradition,” said the 28-year-old forward.

“When you have a chance to win The FA Cup, you have to give 110 per cent. We have the chance now and we have to fight for this.

“I can promise we will give all of what we have to go through to the Final.”

For Podolski, the day will be especially memorable – as despite acquiring 112 international caps and spending the past two years plying his trade in England, Saturday’s fixture will be his first experience of Wembley.

“We want to win the game and go through to the final. It is my first match at Wembley – I have never played there before – so I look forward to this game,” he added.

Asked if success on Saturday and a subsequent Final victory could act as a springboard for the club to attain further silverware, the former Bayern Munich man was pragmatic in his response.

“I don’t know,” he replied. “First you must think about the one Cup – of course after a long time it’s an important thing for the club and the players as well.

“So let’s see what happens first on Saturday and then we will see what happens in the Final, if we get there.”

And on the subject of his opponents Podolski said the Latics will be buoyed by recent success in the competition – and pose a very real threat.

“Everyone thinks it is a small team or that Arsenal will win the game easily,” he added.

“But they will concentrate and focus on this game – it’s one of the biggest games for the club, for Wigan in the last years so it won’t be easy.

“But I think we are strong enough, playing in London so it’s nearly a home game for us. I think it will be a great atmosphere. If we play with spirit and fight – and play our game – then we can be very confident.”
