Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski believes he is a perfect fit to fill the striker’s role at the Emirates Stadium, but doesn’t think he has the backing of manager, Arsene Wenger.
The German international has been used as a bit-part player in North London since arriving from Germany, and he believes that his manager doesn’t trust him enough to play him regularly.
Podolski’s first-team opportunities may be even more limited now since the arrival of Danny Welbeck from Manchester United in a ÂŁ16million deal, and Podolski has admitted that times are tough for him at the club.
Podolski said: “Initially, it’s a difficult situation for me. When you buy new players for a lot of money they have an advantage because they will play.
“But we’ve got a long season ahead of us, and we’ll see what happens.
“When I am in top shape, I am a perfect fit for the Arsenal team. And I see myself in the first XI then, that’s what I work towards.”
The striker was then asked about having Wenger’s trust, and the German replied with: “I am not sure, I hope that that’s the case.”
