The left-back believes he may have to leave Old Trafford this summer despite temporary truce with Jose Mourinho

Tottenham are lining up a summer move for Luke Shaw – and the defender is reportedly hopeful that a deal does go ahead, according to reports.

The defender has been publicly criticised and slammed by his current boss Jose Mourinho, with the Special One claiming that he is a long way behind the other left-backs at the club, which is no doubt a huge blow to the Englishman’s confidence.

Shaw signed for Man United off the back of playing some tremendous football with Southampton.

However, since then he has struggled to feature regularly (due to a broken leg, which kept him out of action for several months) and then he has also struggled to reach the same level he had while with Saints.

It has led to this criticism of him from Mourinho and after his verbal attack at the weekend, it has left the relationship between manager and player very shaky indeed.

Rose linked with move away

The two have held peace talks since and things are understood to be slightly better. However, it’s believed that Shaw still believes that perhaps the best thing to do is to leave Old Trafford in summer and Tottenham could be the team to take him.

Spurs are led by Mauricio Pochettino, who managed Luke Shaw while he was at Southampton. The boss managed to get the best out of the defender and could do it again at White Hart Lane if he does make a move for the left-back.

He would be available for quite cheap, with the player having fallen out of favour with Mourinho and having fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

With Danny Rose also linked with a big money move away in summer, it would leave Spurs potentially needing a replacement for him and that replacement could be Shaw.

With the player reportedly wanting a move away now due to his relationship with Mourinho and lack of gametime and with Spurs potentially needing a new left-back, it could prove to be a perfect match.
