Luke Shaw will seek talks with Southampton over his future after their final game of the season against Manchester United on Sunday. The 18-year old is the subject of interest from clubs in England and abroad, including the Saints opponents at the weekend.
The left-back has had a good season which has seen him become a candidate for England’s World Cup squad, which will be announced on Monday. The defender has so far put talks of a possible transfer move to the back of his mind to focus on playing at St Mary’s but with the season coming to an end, he wants to know where his future lies.
Chelsea and Man United are expected to start the bidding when the transfer window opens and either club could have to bid up to £30m to secure his services. Man City, Liverpool and Real Madrid have all previously registered an interest too. The teenager is believed to be looking for a new challenge but also wants to play regular first-team football.
Southampton may need the money that these clubs offer. The Saints posted a net loss of £7.1m in their last set of financial figures and will enter this summer needing to pay £27m in outstanding transfer fees. Add to that the fact that there is currently a £30m bill for their new training ground and there is a feeling that this may be the summer that Shaw waves goodbye to the club.
