If you are looking for the next teenage sensation in the Manchester City ranks behind Phil Foden, look no further because Eric Garcia has arrived.

At 17, he has the authoritative voice to instruct Nicolas Otamendi on the pitch. He also does not play like a nervous teenager but more like a seasoned vet.

Garcia made his official debut for City this week in the Carabo Cup game against Leicester City and the fans were left in awe of the Spaniard. Standing at 5 feet 10 inches tall, he is not the strongest fit into the centre-half position but a perfect one in Pep Guardiola’s system.

Garcia boasts of remarkable composure while on the ball and the footballing intelligence to pick his tackles. He was a stand out performer for the Sky Blues in the pre-season tour but an unfortunate injury delayed his introduction into the first team.

Garcia was quoted – “I always say when we are on the pitch we are all the same team, so I think if we speak to each other it is better for the team. You try to help your team-mates and at the end that’s the most important. Obviously, with the age, there’s a lot of difference but I just feel that I need to do it. Obviously, he’s OK. I told him and then he tells me so it’s good for both of us.”

Of course, Garcia’s leadership qualities comes from him taking up the captain’s armband for every age group he played in while with Barcelona. He took the leap of faith to jump ship in 2017 and it seems like the decision is starting to pay off.
