Savic is set to be the first summer signing for Red Devils
Manchester United have prioritized the signing of a world class central midfielder this summer as Michael Carrick set to retire at the end of the season and Marouane Fellaini expected to leave the club on a free transfer. Jose Mourinho is looking for a player who could play alongside Nemanja Matic.
Ther have been linked to host of midfielders in recent weeks but Jose Mourinho has been keeping tabs on Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, after being impressed by his displays in Italy.
Savic joined Lazio from the Belgian club Genk in the summer of 2015 and has enjoyed three stunning seasons with the club. He has been the mainstay in their midfield and has established himself as one the best players in the world.
The 23 year old has been the star midfielder for the Serie A giants this season, scoring 13 goals in all competitions. His outstanding form has earned interest from top European clubs like Real Madrid and Juventus.
But the Red Devils are all set to beat competitions for the signing of Serbia International. Manchester United have agreed an £80 million deal for Savic, according to The Sun. He is poised to become the second most expensive transfer into the Premier League after Paul Pogba.
The Premier League giants were reluctant to meet the asking price for the midfielder but have accepted they must pay top dollar to land him now. He is seen as the perfect to team up with countryman Nemanja Matic in the midfield.
Mourinho was able to use Mateja Kezman help, one of the his first signings in England, to land Savic as he is the player’s agent.
