Red Devils to rival City, Arsenal and Chelsea

Manchester United are the latest to join the race to sign Liverpool star Raheem Sterling and have reportedly made an enquiry regarding the England international.

Sterling has had a rather controversial season off the field with contract talks going on since late last year, but it’s now apparent that he won’t be signing any extension at Anfield after informing the club he wants out.

Sterling’s Controversy

The 20-year-old had an interview with BBC Sport earlier this season, without Liverpool knowing, where he confirmed that he wouldn’t hold contract talks until the end of the season. Sterling also confirmed that the initial rejection wasn’t about the money, it was about being at the ‘right club’, and where he could compete for trophies regularly.

Since that interview, Liverpool have officially missed out on the Champions League next season, and have also been knocked out of the FA Cup. The Reds were beaten in the Semi-Final by Aston Villa at Wembley which ended their hopes of a trophy.

Reports broke Monday night that Sterling wanted to quit Liverpool, and since then, several clubs have been earmarked which a potential move for him over the Summer.

Fierce Interest in Winger

Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are five names that have been linked with the winger, but according to this morning’s reports, United could enter the race.

The chances of Liverpool doing business with United are rather slim, but with Sterling wanting out and United having the financial backing, a deal could possibly take place.

Financial Side

It’s believed Liverpool would want around ÂŁ50million for the winger, but if they refuse to sell this Summer, his transfer value will decrease due to his contract nearing it’s end.

Sterling currently earns ÂŁ35k-a-week and was offered a contract around ÂŁ100k by Liverpool, but he rejected it.

According to reports, City are prepared to offer him ÂŁ200k-a-week to join them over rivals.
