Alves has asked Barcelona if he can leave in the new year, with Liverpool and Chelsea interested, but it is United who currently lead the race to sign the defender.
And now reports have emerged that the Red Devils are close to landing the Brazilian’s signature as talks move to advanced stages.
The defender is apparently favouring United as his choice of destination, which will please boss Louis Van Gaal, who is looking to have the deal wrapped up as soon as possible.
Dani Alves will offer stiff competition for fellow Brazilian Rafael in the right back position if a move does materialise.
