Higuain to Anfield to stop the slump?

World Cup finalist and Argentinian goal machine, Gonazalo Higuain, could be on his way to Anfield.

Reports suggest that Higuain is unsettled at Napoli in Serie A, and wants a one-way trip across the channel in January.

Liverpool are favourites in the chase after announcing a ÂŁ31.2miilion bid, and that could be just the ticket for the South American 6-footer.

The Reds are struggling. That is well documented. With Daniel Sturridge seemingly unable to avoid injury whenever he dons a football kit, and the enigma that is Mario Balotelli still yet to arrive on Merseyside, Kop boss Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to bolster his front line.

And with Liverpool’s defensive frailties there for all to see against Real Madrid on Wednesday night, the thinking may well have to be ‘the best form of defence is attack’. If Rodgers can get at least one of these departments working, then we might see a change in fortune for the hapless Reds. Look how far they went last season with a misfunctioning defence!

With World Cup final experience and 190 games for Real Madrid, the 26-year-old who was actually born in France, could well be worth the investment. What happens with Balotelli will remain a mystery for the time being.
