Phil Jones says Arsenal draw was tough to take

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has admitted that the team’s draw with Arsenal at the weekend was tough to take.

United were on their way to a comfortable 1-0 win at Saturday lunchtime, with a Juan Mata goal looking set to be the difference between the two sides.

However, a late, late Olivier Giroud header snatched a point for Arsenal and United were robbed with just a minute of normal time to play.

Jones has recognised it was a tough hit for Jose Mourinho’s men to take,

“It feels like we have been slapped 6-0 because we completely dominated the game from start to finish,” said the England and United defender.

“I thought even when they had a spell of possession they never really created anything to test us.

“I thought we defended well, created chances and it was just one of those things. They got one chance and scored.

“We have to pick ourselves up, we are pleased with the performance but not with the result.”

Mourinho reckons United are the unluckiest team in the Premier League and Jones agrees, but he is clinging to the hope that their fortunes will change.

He added: “He is right. Sometimes the luck is not on your side but it will change.

“It is crazy. If we had won then we would have been three points behind Arsenal. Arsenal have had a world class season and we are supposed to have had an average season.

“We just have to keep plugging away, keep training well, keep playing and keep putting performances in like that and hopefully it will then change.”
