According to reports, Manchester United are preparing to make a £15million bid for Arsenal centre-back Thomas Vermaelen.
The Belgium international, who is the club-captain at the Emirates Stadium, has fallen down the pecking order due to the partnership between Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, and despite revealing he’s ready to fight for his future at the club, it’s now apparent that a Summer transfer could be a possibility.
It’s believed that United are prepared to spend up to £15m for the 28-year-old, and early suggestions believe that an offer around that region would be enough for Arsene Wenger to accept.
Despite being the club-captain, Vermaelen’s game-time this season has been few and far between, and a transfer away may be his best chance to play more frequently.
With Louis Van Gaal set to takeover after the World Cup, his first job will be to replace both Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, and Vermaelen may be a suitable option, however, it’s thought the Belgium is still keen on playing in the Champions League next season.
