Juan Mata, Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard could all lose spots in future

A trio of Manchester United stars could be out of the first-team in the near-future after Louis van Gaal reiterated his desires of getting two pacey wingers.

Despite signing Memphis over the summer, the Dutchman has failed to settle to life in the Premier League, and has already lost his place in the United first-team.

In replace of him has been youngster Lingard, but Van Gaal doesn’t see him as a long-term member of his first-team despite his impressive two displays in the past week.

Another star often deployed on the wing despite his lack of pace is Mata, and because of his speed, Van Gaal may look to drop him as well.

Speaking in a recent interview, the Dutch manager reiterated his desire of signing two pacy wingers for the side so that they can get the balance right.

Pace Wanted

Van Gaal said: “I have said already in my first year many times we need speed and creativity on the wings. You have seen that now we play with Lingard and Mata and they are not the most speedy wingers in the world.

“So first we must first finish [address] that problem and then we can see how we play and how we are in balance when playing with speedy wingers.”
