The midfielder has been heavily linked with the Reds

Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini expressed in confidence that playmaker Mateo Kovacic will still be at the Serie A club next season.

For a long time the Croatia international has been sighted by many as an immediate and capable replacement for the now departed Steven Gerrard.

He continues to be linked with the the Merseyside club as the Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers searches for a long-term successor for Gerrard, despite recently signing James Milner.

However, the rumours are ongoing as this week Kovacic had reportedly agreed personal terms with Liverpool. BUT it is well known that Liverpool had a ÂŁ15.2 million bid turned down for the Croat, with Internazionale wanting at least ÂŁ18 million.

Kovacic looks set to stay at the San Siro

When speaking to Sky Sport Italia, the former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini said: “Kovacic will become a champion, he is young, but has already improved a lot. I think he will stay at Inter.”

He also added: “I don’t think there is anything going on with him regarding a transfer.”

The 21-year old Kovacic scored five goals in 42 appearances in all competitions for Inter Milan last campaign.
