Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has defended the tactics he uses when his side play away from home and has blamed the losses on sloppy mistakes.

Pellegrini’s men are labelled as the title favourites, but if they are to win their second Premier League title, they are going to have to improve their form away from Manchester.

Out of six away games, City have lost four of them, including defeats to Aston Villa, Cardiff City and Sunderland.

However at home, it is a different story. They have won every game so far at the Etihad Stadium and Pellegrini insists that his tactics are fine despite the lack of results on their travels.

“It’s not a question of tactics,” Pellegrini told the Manchester Evening News. “We’ve won just four points out of 18 away from Etihad, but I think we are not playing badly.

“If you review all the matches, we had a lot more chances than the home teams, but some individual mistakes stopped us from getting the three points. I am absolutely convinced by the way we’re playing.

“I’m always thinking about our performances, not only when we’ve had a defeat but also when we win.

“Of course, the best thing before the international break is to win because then you’ve got 15 days without a match, and in our case we’re left with just four or five players, no more, to prepare with during that time.”
