Defender refuses to open contract talks with club

Liverpool have been dealt yet another contract blow after Martin Skrtel has revealed that he won’t be holding talks about a new deal anytime soon.

The club have already been trying to persuade Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling to pen new deals, but the midfield duo have both rejected offers that have been put in front of them, with the latter saying he won’t sign anything until the end of the season.

Due to snubbing new deals, both Henderson and Sterling have been strongly linked with moves away from Anfield and officials are now worried that Skrtel could follow suit after he revealed that he has no intentions of holding contract talks.

“There was contact a few months ago, but at the moment I am just focusing on my game and focusing on the football and then, at the end of the season, we will see where we stand.

“I am focusing on my job and then after the season, if they want then we can talk.”

The centre-back has just 12-months left on his current deal.
