Martin Skrtel has denied his charge of violent conduct for stamping on Manchester United’s David De Gea

Skrtel is accused on stamping on De Gea during stoppage time of the weekends clash at Anfield.

If found guilty of violent conduct he would face a possible 3 match man which would see him miss Premier League games against Arsenal and Newcastle and the FA Cup quarter final replay with Blackburn.

An independent commission will meet and discuss the incident and Skrtels written response as well as views of 3 ex officials who will study the footage.

Skrtel will argue that it was an accident and that he did not mean to stand on the keeper but that he was chasing the ball down in an attempt to score an equaliser.

Diego Costa was found guilty of a similar offence for stamping on Liverpool’s Emre Can in January but did escape a further ban after apparently stamping on Skrtel.

Steven Gerrard was also sent off during the united match and will definitely miss the next 3 games.

The FA are keen for a speedy resolution and the case could be heard as early as today.
