Manchester United defender Phil Jones has admitted that the signing of Juan Mata from Chelsea has given the players the boost they needed during a crucial part of their season.
The Red Devils have not had a great campaign as of yet, but after signing Mata for just under £40million, the atmosphere around the camp has certainly changed and after Tuesday night’s victory, they only find themselves six-points off fourth place.
Mata made an instant impact on Tuesday night againt Cardiff City by grabbing an assist for one of the goals, and after the game, Jones admitted that every United player is trying to prove to the Spaniard that he joined the right club.
“It makes an impact in the dressing room when you sign a player of that calibre,” says Phil Jones.
“He is such a talented player on the ball. He has definitely lifted spirits in the dressing room and especially in training. We want to impress and show him that we are what we are,that we are one of the best teams to be at.
“He came in against Cardiff and did well and I am sure he will be a huge asset for us. He will have an impact in the future. There are no two ways about that. He will be a fantastic player for Manchester United, hopefully for many years to come.
“Juan sees the pass that sometimes no-one else sees. If he continues to make them I am sure we will soon be climbing the table.”
