Arsenal’s manager drives push for £53m signing of Martin Zubimendi

Mikel Arteta is taking matters into his own hands in an effort to overhaul Arsenal’s midfield, increasing the Gunners’ chase of Real Sociedad mastermind Martin Zubimendi.

Arteta appreciates the importance of improving his squad during the January transfer window, even a dismal performance in previous Premier League matchups.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is coordinating the club’s interest in Zubimendi, a vocal fan of the midfielder’s skill set. With injuries and players leaving for international events threatening the midfield, Arteta sees the Spanish midfielder as a varied solution.

Speaking about Zubimendi, Jones told GiveMeSport: “There’s definitely some serious interest in it. It’s hard to gauge at the moment what their ranking would be in terms of order of targets because you’ve got a few names that they’re looking at and the type of player is clearly that defensive-minded one.

“The guy that is going to keep possession, break up play. But it’s really tough to know whether Zubimendi is going to be a top target or just a target. It also depends, of course, on how much money they have to invest in that area of the field.

“It’s a player that definitely I know that Mikel Arteta really admires and I think a lot of this is led by him.”

Zubimendi’s ability to thrive in both the left-sided number eight role and defensive midfield makes him an ideal prospect for depth and tactical versatility.

However, acquiring Zubimendi’s signature will not be easy. Despite Arteta’s desire to bring the Real Sociedad star to the Emirates, Arsenal confronts the difficult job of meeting his massive £53 million release clause.

This significant financial commitment poses an issue for the North London team, particularly given Zubimendi’s steadfast dedication to his current club.

The Real Sociedad midfielder has eluded Arsenal in recent transfer windows, but Arteta’s personal involvement suggests a renewed desire. The Gunners must not only handle financial complexities, but also overcome Zubimendi’s strong ties to Sociedad.

Arsenal fans are eagerly awaiting a resolution that might improve their midfield and revive the team’s Premier League ambitions as Arteta pushes for a breakthrough in discussions.
