Didier Drogba could be set for Stamford Bridge return

Montreal Impact have confirmed the club are in talks with Chelsea regarding striker Didier Drogba, who could be set for a coaching role at Stamford Bridge.

The MLS outfit have the Ivorian for one more year after he signed a two-year deal last summer, but they have now confirmed talks with the Premier League side and have admitted it’s not their decision.

Drogba was spotted at Stamford Bridge during Chelsea‘s 3-1 win over Sunderland, sparking speculation that he was set to join Guus Hiddink‘s coaching team.

Hiddink was announced as interim on the same day following Jose Mourinho‘s dismissal on Thursday, and it now looks like Drogba is set for a return to help out with the coaching.

Montreal Impact took to Twitter to confirm the stories and revealed they were in talks with the Premier League champions.

Montreal Statement

They tweeted: “We are currently in contact with Didier Drogba and Chelsea FC. We are doing everything we can to have him back with the Impact in 2016.

“We understand his attachment to his former club and his desire to help them. We are willing to accommodate him.

“But our objective is to have him back for another season, as agreed in his contract. This situation is out of our control.

“We would like to thank our supporters for their understanding and their patience.”
