Manchester United star snubbed rivals for ‘dream move’
Manchester United forward Memphis Depay has confirmed that he rejected a move to Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool before moving to Old Trafford.
The Dutchman was strongly linked with a move to the Premier League during his PSV Eindhoven days, but he eventually chose to move to United after snubbing both Spurs and Liverpool.
Memphis has failed to settle into life at United as of yet, putting in below-par performances and not even making Louis van Gaal‘s starting XI on numerous occasions.
However, speaking about his move, the forward admitted it was a dream come true to sign for United and that is why he rejected offers elsewhere.
Dream Come True
‘I spoke to Liverpool, they were really concrete – but because of an injury in their team they wanted to wait a bit,’ Depay told Dutch newspaper AD.
‘After that Paris Saint-Germain came – they were really concrete too.
‘One year earlier, Tottenham Hotspur was interested.
‘With SEG, my agency, I sat down and considered everything but then Manchester United came.
‘Very quick and very direct. At that moment you immediately know; this is it. This is the absolute top. As a club but also the league.’
