First official day for The Special One in his new job

Jose Mourinho has begun his first official day as manager of Manchester United today.

Mourinho arrived at Manchester Piccadilly station in the early hours of this morning and headed to Old Trafford to begin his work at United ahead of a long season.

The former Chelsea boss will have his first official press conference on Tuesday after being appointed successor to Louis van Gaal back in May.

He has already worked some transfer dealings at United, signing defender Eric Bailly from Villarreal for around ÂŁ30million, and striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also set to be another incoming player, with his move from Borussia Dortmund close to being completed.

There are likely to be more departures too, with Juan Mata’s future undecided having been sold by Mourinho to United while at Chelsea in January 2014.

The new boss will be looking to fix circumstances at United as soon as he can, with the club dropping below their usual high performance standards since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013. David Moyes was the initial replacement, but was sacked after guiding the club to 7th in the 2013/14 season.

Louis van Gaal was given a longer spell, but just one trophy in 2 seasons lead to his dismissal before Mourinho was employed. He will be looking forward to continuing his rivalry with Pep Guardiola, who is now the manager at city-rivals Manchester City. The pair were best of enemies while Mourinho was in charge at Real Madrid and Guardiola at Barcelona. That rivalry, along with competing against some other top managers in the league, including Jurgen Klopp, Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte, will lead to an extremely exciting Premier League season over the next 10 months or so.7
