Serb has had a poor start to the new campaign

Jose Mourinho has insisted he will not drop the out-of-form Branislav Ivanovic.

The 31 year-old has suffered an unusually poor start to the new Premier League season and has been under intense scrutiny as a result.

A number of Blues supporters have been calling for the Serbian to be replaced by the reliable Cesar Azpilicueta and new signing Baba Rahman to fill in at left-back.

But Mourinho insists he still has faith in Ivanovic, adding that he will remain the first choice right-back at Stamford Bridge.

No Dropping Ivanovic

“That’s something I speak about with Ivanovic,” Mourinho said on the Serbian’s recent decline in form.

“Ivanovic likes to speak with me, and Ivanovic likes to speak with me about his mistakes.

“He’s not crying, he’s not a prima donna, and I’m critical with him.

“We speak about what he has to do to try and improve.

“I have no doubts he is my best right-back, and that he has to improve in some aspects of his game this season. Simple as that.”
