Mourinho takes dig at critics

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has criticised the ‘philosophers’ who question his side’s tactics ahead of their Champions League semi final 2nd leg against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

The Blues’ defensive approach was seriously highlighed after Chelsea ‘parked the bus’ twice in a week as they drew 0-0 in Madrid in their first leg, and stole a 2-0 at Anfield after a magnificent defensive display.

Mourinho said: “Football in this moment is full of philosophers, people who understand much more than me. Amazing.

“But the reality is the reality. A team that doesn’t defend well doesn’t have many chances to win.

Mourinho’s side only had 31% possession at Atletico’s Vincente Calderon in last weeks first leg, and 27% of possession in their win at Anfield, causing Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers to claim the Portuguese ‘parked 2 buses’.

“If the opponent is very fast and needs space behind your defence, and you give them that space, you are stupid,” added Mourinho, who said Rodgers congratulated him for the win on Tuesday.

Should Chelsea beat Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge, The Blues will play Atletico’s city rivals, Real Madrid, in the final. Carlo Ancelotti’s side eased past holders Bayern Munich 5-0 on aggregate after a dominant display at Bayern’s Allianz Arena on Tuesday. It all adds extra spice to the final should Chelsea make it, due to Mourinho’s past with Real.
