Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy reckons the club would be mad to hire ex-Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas as a replacement for Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers has seen his position at Anfield come under threat this season, with the club currently sitting in ninth place in the Premier League, fifteen points behind leaders Chelsea.

Murphy, who made 170 appearances for the club between 1997 and 2004, told TalkSport:

“Brendan will keep his job, no matter what. He deserves that.

“But if for some reason – and it would be a shock – if he left, AVB would not be on the list of 20 managers next for Liverpool, never mind one.

“It’s ridiculous. He failed at Chelsea, he failed at Tottenham so why would you take him at Liverpool?”

AVB has found the Premier Legaue a tough nut to crack as a manager, failing to make a real impression in his spells in charge at Chelsea and Tottenham. He is currently trying to rebuild his reputation at Russian side Zenit St Petersburg.
