Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, has come out swinging this week, insisting that he is the right man for the job at Anfield, and claiming ‘no-one could do a better job’.
The Reds have had a woeful start to the 2014/2015 campaign, losing six games in the Premier League already, which is the same amount they lost all of last season, and along with that, they are also out of the Champions League after just six games.
Ninth in the Premier League and relegated to the Europa League, questions have been asked regarding Rodgers and his future, with several ex-players saying he’s on borrowed time, but the man himself believes he’s still the right man for the job.
In this weekend’s press conference, Rodgers came out fighting by stating no other manager could do a better job than him.
‘The message for me is clear, I don’t think there would be anyone better to do the job here,’ he said.
‘Seven months ago we nearly won the title unexpectedly, I had time to work with players and took them beyond where the club has been.
‘This has been a difficult start with new players and less coaching time with young players, virtually starting again.
‘I don’t think there is anybody equipped better to deal with that and deal with that having been here for the last two-and-a-half years and experienced what this club is about.
‘You will have ex-players that are paid to criticise and some that are not paid to criticise.
‘I certainly don’t doubt myself, I know exactly where we are at and what we need. It certainly doesn’t make me doubt anything.
‘[Criticism] comes with the territory when you don’t win games. Football is very short term.
‘The same people – maybe six or seven months ago – were saying I couldn’t do anything wrong. That is the way football works. You have to accept that as a manager and fight even harder to bring success. I will do, for sure.’
