Barcelona have confirmed that they have signed Antoine Griezmann on a five-year deal after paying his €120 million buyout clause.

The Frenchman was on the brink of signing for Barcelona last summer but decided to sign a new contract with Atletico Madrid. However, Griezmann revealed his desire to leave Atletico Madrid in May. As many expected, Griezmann has signed for Barcelona on a transfer fee that makes this the joint 4th highest transfer in football history alongside the transfer of his now Barca teammate Philippe Coutinho.

A statement on the club’s website read: “FC Barcelona has paid the 120 million euro buyout clause to release Antoine Griezmann from Atlético Madrid.”]

One of the best footballers in the world, Antoine Griezmann cemented this status of his through his performances for Atletico Madrid. Since joining the club from Real Sociedad on a transfer fee of €30 million.

Griezmann made 257 appearances for Atleti, scoring 133 goals, a club record. During his time at Atletico Madrid, Griezmann won the Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Supercopa de Espana.

With Barcelona desperate to win the Champions League, Griezmann could well be the player whose addition might put them in a position to do so.
