Borussia Dortmund have announced two major signings this summer in Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard. Both players signed contracts till 2024.
Thorgan Hazard’s final game of the 2018/19 season was against Borussia Dortmund. Hazard had an outstanding season with Borussia Monchengladbach, scoring 13 goals and providing 12 assists. Upon signing for Borussia Dortmund, Hazard said, “I am grateful for five great years at Borussia Mönchengladbach and very nice memories.This was the perfect time to take the next step in my career.I am proud to play for Borussia Dortmund a top club with incredible fans. ”
Club legend and current sporting director Michael Zorc said, “We are delighted that Thorgan has decided to go with Borussia Dortmund in full conviction that he is a seasoned Bundesliga player and Belgian national player who will help us with his pace and quality of finishing.
Julian Brandt began his professional career at Bayer Leverkusen and made 215 appearances for the club, scoring 42 goals and providing 51 assists. This season, Brandt scored 10 goals and provided 17 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions. The 23-year old’s 11 Bundesliga assists were the third most this season. Brandt played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen securing a Champions League spot next season.
Upon signing his contract. Brandt said, “I am a person who sometimes decides things from the gut and for whom a good feeling is important. In the case of Borussia Dortmund, I have a very good feeling One of the main reasons for my change is that BVB narrowly missed the title last season, so there is room for improvement and I am very excited about the boys, I am very motivated and optimistic about my personal development but especially the whole team.”
Both players were once linked to Liverpool, Brandt in particular. However, it seems that the duo will be playing together at Borussia Dortmund next season.
