Reports coming out of Turkey state that Barcelona’s on-loan midfielder, Arda Turan is currently facing up to 12 years of possible prison sentence due to physical assault of Turkish singer, Berkay Sahin.
The 32-year-old midfielder is currently on a 30-month loan spell with Istanbul Basaksehir. He was involved in an altercation with Sahin in a nightclub in October 2018.
Turan had approached Sahin’s wife, Ozlev Ada at the establishment with flirty comments. Sahin, in turn, reacted violently and later had to be rushed to the hospital for a broken nose and other injuries.
The incident did not end there. Turan visited the singer during recovery to apologize for his actions. The midfielder walked into the hospital with a firearm attached to his hip.
He then asked Sahin to shoot him with the weapon as an act of revenge for the previous night’s actions. When the singer refused, Turan shot the hospital floor in anger. Now, the veteran Turkish international is looking at over a decade into a correctional facility over charges of assault, sexual harassment and possession of an illegal firearm.
Turan’s psychological conditions might not be optimal at this point with him picking up a 16-match ban last year for pushing an assistant referee during a match. Both Turan and Sahin will have to appear in court later in June 2018 to realize the outcome of the case.
From being touted as one of Europe’s elite attacking midfielders, during his time with Atletico Madrid, Arda Turan’s story certainly has been a massive fall from grace.
