Pep Guardiola says Leroy Sane has had productive contract talks with Manchester City and the youngster is on the verge of extending his stay at the club.
Sane has become a crucial part of Guardiola’s setup and has been pretty influential in Manchester City’s current unbeaten run. But he had to go through various difficulties since the start of the year.
Despite having an excellent season he was unexpectedly dropped from the German World Cup squad as Joachim Low thought the 22 year old wouldn’t be a fit to his system. Later Guardiola too casted doubt on his attitude but Sane stood tall and waited for his chance to arrive.
The arrival of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City also put his positions in danger but the former Schalke winger has made it clear he is here to stay at the Etihad stadium.
Guardiola said, “The last information I had is that it’s going well.
“I don’t have any info from the club, saying we are in trouble [regarding Sane’s talks].
“The process [takes time], you saw with Raheem Sterling, it does not take one day, except Kevin De Bruyne, I think it was done in one or two days, the other ones will sometimes take longer.
“But hopefully [Sane] can stay here for longer, for many, many years.”
