Phelan: Rip up your shopping list Moyes

Former Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan has said that David Moyes can just ‘rip up his shopping list’ if United don’t make a top 4 finish this season. Moyes claimed earlier in the week that several world-class players are wanting to join Old Trafford, but without Champions League football at the club Phelan thinks that these players might change their minds.

The chances of United making top 4 at the moment is fading, as they currently trail 4th placed Liverpool by 11 points with eleven games to go. There is an outside chance they could qualify by winning the competition, as they prepare to face Olympiakos in Athens for the last 16. However, United do have to play Liverpool at home on the 16th March.

“It may be the case where Moyes has two shopping lists, one for if he gets into Europe and one for if he doens’t,” Phelan said, “playing in the Champions League is always an issue. You’re going to be in competition with big clubs for the players you want.”

“But Manchester United is certainly a big club and big players want to be there.”
