The Gunners’ recent fixture versus Sunderland resulted in a 4-1 win to Arsenal, leaving them a point behind Chelsea with 11 matches to go.

Their impressive display against the Black Cats has left him very pleased and feels like his side are well placed in the title challenge.

“We wanted to win because we haven’t won in the league for a long time, we managed to score four goals and wanted to keep a clean sheet- we didn’t but we took the three points which is the most important thing.

“We wanted to finish our tough run of fixtures well. Unfortunatley we were disappointed because we wanted to win every game, but that’s football.

“We have to learn and look forward because we’re still one point behind Chelsea. We want to finish first, we want to be successful and we have to make a lot of effort and realise our dream.”

Sagna played all over in the defence, going right back, left back and even centre back against Sunderland, and despite wanting to play centre half he admitted that that’s what happens when you have such bad injuries.

“I’m delighted because the whole team defended well until the end,” he said.

“Even if at the end of the game we were a bit tired, we didn’t stop making an effort. As I said before, it was really important to take the three points.

Up next for Arsenal is a trip to the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, a win being vital as fourth place Liverpool are creeping behind the top three as they have an advantage due to not having European commitments.
