Phil Neville feels the ongoing criticism surrounding Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is being used to attack him personally.

There has been staunch reaction over Mourinho’s choice of words in recent times. The Portuguese manager indirectly took digs towards some players and the club management.

Prior to the Newcastle United game, reports in Mirror claimed the manager would be given the sack irrespective of United’s result against Rafa Benitez’s side. The Red Devils went on to snatch a dramatic comeback to register their fourth victory in the Premier League.

United sources later rejected reports of his removal and Neville also believes the manager is on the right path and can lead to the team to a better position. “I think Jose is still someone that I look up to and admire because managers go through tough times.

“I’ve been sacked twice and it hurts when people level things at you, in defeat or at bad times, it can get personal and maybe some of it has got personal with Jose.

“I agree with Jose I think there is a bit of a manhunt out there – everyone seems to be looking at him. I think they’ve got the right man who can handle that sort of situation.”
