Premier League football doesn’t suit Gerard Pique’s style of play, according to Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes.

The Spanish centre-back has been strongly linked with a move back to Old Trafford or even a switch to Chelsea after falling out of favour at the Nou Camp under new-boss, Luis Enrique, but according to Scholes, the style of football in England doesn’t suit the former-United academy member.

Pique left United for Barca in the early stages of his career, and since then has become one of the best centre-backs in football, but since being dropped, his future has been in doubt and a move back to England could be on the cards.

However, his former team-mate thinks he should stay in Spain, where the football suits his style of play.

‘I have always thought that Spanish football, and Barcelona in particular, suits him best,’ Scholes revealed in his column in The Independent.

‘He likes being in a side that keeps possession. He is great at home but playing away at the big teams in England is a completely different prospect for a defender.

‘His success at Barcelona and with Spain has been incredible. But I think Gerard would find it harder back in the Premier League.’

According to reports, both United and Chelsea are prepared to spend ÂŁ24million on the defender next Summer.
