Premier League Return Handed A Massive Boost In COVID Testing Numbers

Project Restart is underway for the Premier League and medical reports are nothing but positive for everybody involved.

1,213 players and staff have been tested over the past few weeks and only person has tested positive for COVID-19. That makes it to only 14 affected patients out of 7,487 tested.

Players who were hesitant to step out in groups can breathe easy due to the precautions being taken. This news comes just 5 days before Premier League returns with matches against Aston Villa vs Sheffield United and Arsenal vs Manchester City.

Premier League’s official announcement read, “The Premier League can today confirm that on Monday 8 June and Tuesday 9 June, 1,213 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19,” the League said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Of these, one has tested positive. The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency. No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing.”

That is a brilliant initiative to make this problem much easier to deal with. Even if a second wave of the disease breaks, transparency will help tackle matters quickly. After all, players will only be confident to play their best when their minds are at ease.
