Spaniard will sign three-year deal worth £4m-a-year
Rafael Benitez will sign a three-year deal at Newcastle United worth £4million-a-year, according to reports.
The Magpies are currently fighting for their Premier League survival, but following a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of AFC Bournemouth, they are now in a dangerous position with just 10-games remaining.
After the 3-1 loss to Bournemouth, Newcastle fans made their voices heard by calling for Steve McClaren to be sacked and despite only taking over in the summer, it looks like they’ve got their wish.
According to reports, Newcastle officials have informed McClaren that he’s no longer needed at St James’ Park, and he is set to be replaced by Benitez, who started the campaign as Real Madrid manager.
Contract Details Revealed
It’s believed Benitez will sign a three-year deal with the Magpies, which will be worth £4m-a-year, a lot more than what McClaren was earning.
As well as his basic salary, the Spaniard will receive a further £2m in bonuses should he manage to keep Newcastle in the Premier League.
However, on the flip side of the contract, there will be a get-out clause inserted just in case Newcastle do get relegated, as it’s understood that Benitez isn’t keen on staying in the Championship.
Benitez has had previous spells in England, famously with Liverpool and then also with Chelsea on a short-term basis.
