Raheem Sterling to Manchester City for £60million?

So, Raheem Sterling hasn’t signed a contract extension at Anfield yet, and the big boys of the footballing world are on high alert.

Sterling’s reputation is growing by the minute. It was only announced this weekend that he has been awarded Europe’s prestigious Golden Boy award for his outstanding performances in 2014. The accolade is presented to the best player under the age of 21 in a top-flight league in Europe and is voted on by journalists from across the continent.

Recent reports have been suggesting that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are extremely interested, and are keen to acquire the little winger’s silky skills for their very own.

But now, adding to all the conjecture surrounding the 20-year-old’s future, Manchester City are reportedly planning a massive £60million bid to wrestle him away from Anfield.

Liverpool, so full of promise last year, have failed to impress so far this term. They are already out of the Champions League, and so far adrift from the summit of the Premier League, qualifying for next years elite European competition looks a long way off. These are facts that will not have escaped Sterling and his agents.

He does still have two and a half years left on his existing contract, but £30,000 a week is not going to keep him at Anfield. Yes, £30,000 a week is not going to be enough. Most of us don’t earn that in a year, so it does seem a little like monopoly money, however, we can be fairly confident the next time he puts pen to paper, it will be for at least £100,000 a week. Whether that is with the Reds of Liverpool remains to be seen. The Anfield faithful will certainly hope so.

Rest assured, here at sillyseason, we will report on it as it happens.
