Defender is close to making Man United move

Real Madrid have agreed to let Sergio Ramos leave according to the Daily Star.

The Red Devils have been eager to sign him since the end of the 2014/15 campaign but Madrid have been very reluctant to let him leave.

Louis Van Gaal has had previous bids – including one worth £30m – turned down by the La Liga side, as they hoped to keep hold of one of their main defenders.

Fee could be £50m

However, it appears they may now be willing to let him leave, with Spanish journalist Pablo Garcia Cuervo claiming that he could now be set to make the move to Old Trafford.

He said: “Sergio has made his mind up. Florentino also wants Sergio to leave, but Real Madrid want it to seem like Sergio is the one who wants to leave because he isn’t very ‘madridista’.

“If Florentino Pérez wanted to keep Casillas, he hid it very well. The same is happening with Ramos.”

It could cost Man United £50m to sign Ramos but it is a sum of money that boss Van Gaal is willing to pay if it means that the 29-year old will make the move to England.
