Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has rejected a contract extension from the Spanish giants in the hope that he can force through a move to Arsenal this Summer.
The German international, who scored in their 7-1 thrashing of Brazil on Tuesday night, is wanted by Arsene Wenger as he looks to add a strong defensive midfielder to his side, and after reportedly plotting a £24million bid for the 27-year-old, Khedira is now keen to hold talks with the Premier League outfit.
According to reports in Spain, Khedira has rejected a two-year extension from Madrid in the hope that Arsenal will push through with their interest, but a major stumbling block may be the player’s wage demands.
The German wants to be paid around £153k-a-week, which would make him the highest ever earner in Arsenal’s history, but with his desire to join the club in order to link up with best friend, Mesut Ozil, he may choose to take a pay-cut in order to join.
