Pepe Reina will activate a transfer clause at the end of the season, which will see the keeper leave Anfield for just £5 million.

The keeper is currently on loan at Napoli, but is wanted by Barcelona.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has stated that the keeper has no future at Anfield.

“I was surprised at the letter – when you are a loan player  I would expect that he should come back, but obviously Pepe made it very clear when he went to Napoli that he was looking to move,” the Reds boss said recently.

“He penned a great big letter saying he was going to work with the best manager that he’d worked with and thanked for his time for Liverpool. So for me it probably sounded like he’d made his decision there.”

Reina stated that he thought he had a future at the club, however, in an interview to the BBC, the keeper stated that Benitez was the best manager he’s ever worked with.

“That is what the manager says apparently but I have two years left on my contract.

“Liverpool got another goalkeeper and they told me they were happy to loan me for a season. It was strange but I don’t regret it.

“There are always up and downs in a career and in the last two-and-a-half years at Liverpool there were different methods and perhaps I didn’t do as good as I used to with Rafa.

“He (Benitez) is the best manager I’ve ever had, I’ve ever worked with.”
