New Chelsea striker Loic Remy remains ‘baffled’ as to why a move to Liverpool this summer broke down.

Remy, 27, joined the Blues from Queen’s Park Rangers at the end of the summer transfer window. However, he nearly completed a move to Anfield, but faied a medical for reasons which remain unknown.

Remy appeared to be in good shape, with Rangers manager Harry Redknapp insisting that ‘you could not wish to meet a fitter player’.

Chelsea moved to sign the striker after activating a buy-out clause, and loaning misfiring Fernando Torres to AC Milan for two years.

And Remy, who scored France’s only goal in the 1-0 win over Spain last week, said: “I did not understand myself. A problem during the medical examination? I do not know. They put it, that must be it.

“In my head, I quite wanted to stay at QPR, but I did not hesitate one second to many reasons: for my room for improvement, for my confidence, in terms of level of demand and Chelsea is one of the best clubs in the world. I’m happy to have signed for a club like this.

“I know I’m not going to be the first striker, but nothing is set. I have goals. By signing here, I did not say it was to stay on the sidelines. I will try to move up alongside great players. The rest will happen naturally.”
